Scholarship Guidelines


Applicants to the Lockheed Martin STEM Scholarship Program must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • U.S. Citizens
  • Current high school seniors with a cumulative 3.5 or above GPA, or current college freshmen or sophomores with a cumulative 3.0 or above GPA.
  • Planning to enroll or already enrolled full-time at an accredited four-year college or university in the U.S.
  • Majoring or planning to major in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Math, Physics, Information Systems/Management Information Systems or Information Assurance.
  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Be willing to consider a paid internship with Lockheed Martin following freshman, sophomore or junior year of college, other circumstances notwithstanding. (Note: The internship is not required to receive a scholarship.)


If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $10,000 award. Up to 200 awards will be granted in 2019. Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study, continued enrollment in an eligible major, and continuation of the program by Lockheed Martin.

Provided there are qualified applicants, an effort will be made to give preference to applicants who:

  • Are attending or plan to attend an Lockheed Martin partner institution.
  • Have taken Project Lead the Way (PLTW) classes in high school.
  • Have demonstrated leadership capabilities (evidenced by volunteerism, mentoring younger students, STEM-focused extracurricular activities, work experience)
  • Have a compelling personal story and/or family circumstances (i.e. military family). 

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Application Process

The first step is to register, create an application account, and complete your student profile. The email address on file in your student profile must be active and you must check it regularly. Keep a record of your username and password.

To begin, click on the "Create an Account" link at the bottom of this page. The link to your application is displayed on the "Student Overview" page of this site after you complete your profile. Your Student Profile is NOT your application.

Standard capitalization (Jackie Smith, not jackie smith or JACKIE SMITH) must be used when entering data.

During the application process, you will be able to save your entered information and leave the site by clicking "Save and Log Out" in the left navigation area on each application page.

To log back into your account, you must enter your username and password. Click the "Continue Application" button to access your application. Your application will remain available for updates until you submit it, or until the deadline is reached, whichever occurs first. Until all required fields are completed and in the proper format, you will not be able to submit your application. The Review Page will highlight which items still need your attention. Once all application requirements are satisfied, the "Lock and Submit Application" button will be available to you near the bottom of the Review page. Carefully review your entire application before clicking on the "Lock and Submit Application" button. After the application is successfully submitted, your application can be viewed or printed for your files, but no further updates can be made. Profile information, however, may be updated at any time.

Program Deadline

Your application must be submitted on or before 3:00 p.m. Central Time on March 12, 2019

Required Documents

As part of your application, you must upload the following documents:

  1. Current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course, and term in which each course was taken.
  2. Copy of the first two pages of the most recently filed IRS Form 1040 used for the Financial Information Page.

Your application is not complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal. Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, must be demonstrated for the student to receive an award.

Note: If the applicant's family does not file taxes, please attach a document explaining the circumstances in detail.

Additional consideration will be given to groups which are underrepresented in STEM careers as provided below:

  • Women
  • People of color
  • Individuals living with a disability*
  • Individuals that identify as LGBTQ
  • Those that are or will be first generation college students

    *The Americans with Disabilities Act defines a person with a disability as a person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activity.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Lockheed Martin play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.


Applicants will be notified in late April. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Lockheed Martin. Payments are made in equal installments in August and December. 


Recipients have no obligation to Lockheed Martin. They are, however, required to notify Scholarship America of any changes in address, school enrollment, or other relevant information, and to send a complete official transcript when requested.


Lockheed Martin reserves the right to review the conditions and procedures of this scholarship program and to make changes at any time including termination of the program.
